One Of the Convenient Ad Techniques
Pop-up ads are advertisements that pop-up in its own window when you go to a page. They have been put there intentionally for advertisements purposes and cause an annoyance to the person who is trying to view a page. Sometimes, the number of pop-up ads is so many that one has no choice but to exit the site and look for the information they are looking for elsewhere.
Pop-up-ads are a convenient way to get a message across to the visitor of a site. It can also be a very irritating disturbance for any serious minded browser on the Internet trying to get some work done. Everyone has experienced pop up ads on the computer desktop while they are surfing the Internet. These ads have a way of just popping up from out of nowhere and looking you in the face. No doubt, one can close the ads before the advertisement has completely opened but, somehow this is still an irritant for most Internet surfers, reveal surveys.
Pop-up ads annoy users because they clutter up the window and are actually an intrusion because the visitor does not want to see them anyway. Pop-up ads are proving to be a disqualifying factor of popularity ratings of a site. Pop-up ads are much more effective than banner advertisements online. It is believed that a banner ad will get two to six clicks per thousand impressions a pop-up ad will average 30 clicks. This is the reason advertisers are willing to pay more for pop-up ads and they are not concerned with the intrusion level or the irritating factor of pop-up ads so long as their product or service is being advertised to all and sundry.
Pop-up ads do have their advantages though with the young crowd that is just surfing the Internet for fun. If you are surfing the Internet nit looking for anything in particular and surfing sites that you are actually interested in when suddenly you catch something in the corner of your eye. This may be a link to a site that is hosting something you have had at the back of your mind for a long time and so you click on the link. You are hit with a popup even before the site can fully open. Now the popup may contain information of the product you are looking for, if you're lucky, if you're not, you will probably get many irrelevant pop-ups cluttering your desktop. In some cases these pop-up ads open a new popup when the first one is closed or there will be a series of pop-ups on the screen obscuring your view of the actual site, which might well get lost in the number of windows opened on the screen.
So, even though pop-up ads do have an advantage for advertisers, they are somewhat of a pestilence to serious Internet surfers and advertisers must keep in mind to respect the privacy of the visitors or else their product might just invoke an uncalled boycott from the general surfers.
